AGRM’s 2016 Annual Convention being held in Jacksonville, FL to help fight drug and homelessness epidemic

theme-callout-335According to the Obama Administration in a statement released in October 2015, there are more Americans today dying from drug related deaths than motor vehicle crashes. Unfortunately, surveys also indicate that drug abuse is the leading cause for homelessness. With Homelessness, food insecurity, and drug and alcohol addiction always a concern in major cities around the country, the AGRM Annual Convention aims at bringing professionals together to celebrate accomplishments and share resources for handling the tragic conditions of the desperate and disenfranchised in North America. Beginning June 6, 2016, close to a 1000 rescue mission directors and staff will be taking over the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront and the Omni Hotel for this national convention.

AGRM stands for the “Association of Gospel Rescue Missions,” of which City Rescue Mission is just 1 out of 300 who belong to the AGRM as a member. Combined, rescue missions around the country use roughly 300,000 volunteers and 10,000 full-time staff to serve approximately 50 million meals, provide more than 20 million nights of lodging, distribute some 30 million pieces of clothing, and graduate upwards of 20,000 people from addiction recovery programs in just one year. Last year, Jacksonville’s own City Rescue Mission provided our neighbors in need with over 252,000 meals, 85,297 nights of shelter, graduated 40 students from the LifeBuilders Addiction Recovery Program and had a total of 98 students awarded full time jobs.

During the convention, attendees will get a chance to hear from national platform guests like Vince D’Acchiolo, Brenda Salter McNeil, Elisa Morgan and local platform guest, Bishop Vaughn McLaughlin, founder of the 5,000 member Potter’s House Christian Fellowship. On Tuesday night, June 7, AGRM members including City Rescue Mission, Trinity Rescue Mission and Mercy Support Services are inviting the public to join them at their House Party for the Neighbors event at the Florida Theater. This FREE event will feature special guests like multi-platinum CMA and ACM recording artist Tracy Lawrence, Grammy award-winning vocalist and comedian Mark Lowry and many more.
