On Saturday June 25, 2016, City Rescue Mission (CRM) and the Southside Business Men’s Club (SBMC) will partner together to host a summer picnic for Jacksonville’s neighbors in need. The picnic will begin at 11:00a.m. at our New Life Inn located at 234 W. State Street. The Southside Business Men’s Club have been collecting donations to help the homeless beat the heat this summer, including items such as sunscreen, toothpaste and toothbrushes, hats, Chap Stick, and towels for at least 500 guests, which can serve as cold towels for the hot summer weather that has quickly shown up.
Members of the club will begin serving meals at 11:00a.m. Immediately following their meal, guests will be able to leave with these custom summer safety kits. We are grateful to have The Promise 100.7, who will provide a live remote coverage at the event.
City Rescue Mission’s Executive Director, Penny Kievet said “it fills my heart to see businesses partner with City Rescue Mission to make a difference in the lives of Jacksonville’s homeless men, women, and children. We are so blessed to have such wonderful partners at City Rescue Mission!” Club President, Patrick Heatherington said “Our club’s civic focus has long been towards children and education. During the year we raise money through various endeavors to give children from Jacksonville a chance at higher education in hopes they’ll work hard and become successful. However sometimes in life people stumble and need a second chance. That’s where our friends at City Rescue Mission are vital; we’re honored and humbled to be their partners. This event gives our members an opportunity to work with a great organization that’s engaged in giving people that second chance at success and independence.”
