Preparing a will is very important because it ensures that your
assets are passed on according to your wishes. A will is a legal document
and you will need to consult a lawyer in drawing up or modifying your will.
Every state has specific procedures for wills and the distribution of estates
that must be followed or your will could be deemed invalid. Without a will,
or if your will is deemed invalid, your property and life savings will be
distributed according to the laws of your state, without regard to
your wishes. Your charitable bequest can be:

(i) a fixed dollar amount;
(ii) specific property, such as real estate (e.g., residences, farms, unimproved land), stock or personal property;
(iii) a percentage of your total estate; or
(iv) the residual of your estate after other bequests are paid.

In addition to a bequest in your will, you can also designate City Rescue
Mission as a beneficiary in your life insurance policy, your retirement
account (individual retirement accounts, pension plans, 401(k) plans)
and your bank or brokerage accounts (saving accounts, certificates
of deposit, money market accounts).
